Post Cell standby problem
Hi there!

I received my Apad A8 just a week ago, and it's a great device. My primary need was to use it as a ebook reader + a quick browsing device, and so far it has been great except for the battery part. I am getting around 3 hours of battery from the device if the WiFi is off.

And the major battery hogging app according to battery info is the Cell Standby. The Cell standby is about 80% all the time, and the charge quickly dissipates in no time. I know that there is a work around for Smart Q7/5 already here http://www.chinadigitalcomm.com/android-f28/android-smartq7-disable-cell-standby-increase-battery-life-t1385.html.

Has some one done something similar on a Apad or can anyone help me out with mine?

Thanks in advance.
:)

PS: Btw I have tried the Airplane mode and also Airplane mode apps, and none have worked for me so far. Even if the Airplane mode is on, Cell standby doesnt turn itself off. I haven't changed the Firmware so far.

Hi there!

I solved the standby problem manually. I first rooted the tablet, then enabled read write mode in ADB and deleted apk files related to phone functions. I dont have cellstandby anymore!

Yesterday I performed a backup test, by enabling WiFi and did some other tasks. The device had about 10% of battery backup after 7 hours of continuous usage. Before removing the Cell standby function, the backup was about 3 hours for me, have to test it further. :)

thanks for the tip, pachdroid. I rooted the device, re-mounted /system read-write and deleted Phone.apk in /system/app
Now cell standby does not show up anymore in the battery usage. Not sure if it improved battery life though.

It did help with mine though. The backup was about 3 hours before this was done. Now I am continuously getting more than 5 hours to 8 hours depending on the type of usage. If the WiFi is on, the backup is around 5, and if its used only to read books (mostly Aldiko/Adobe reader), the backup goes up till 8. I bought it as a ebook reader, and this beauty serves the purpose perfectly. :)

This is a 100% battery time improvement!
Are you serious

Which apk-s have you deleted from the system?

I rooted the tablet and re-mounted R/W

Under System\app

Phone.apk (It's case sensitive)

I just renamed the file to phone.bak (mv Phone.apk phone.bak)

The battery monitor no longer shows Cell Standby.

I haven't noticed a "100%" improvement, but there was a 20% to 30% one which translates to about 1 - 2 hours extra. I did a run test from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM with WiFi on (at 2:30 it was below 15%), so 6 hours for me.

Overall, it was worthwhile for me.
