Post Anyone have ANY insight into the very low WiFi throughput - HELP!! :)
I've been back and forth over this so many times - I will literally try ANYTHING in an attempt to get better than 1Mbps throughput on this thing.

It's main purpose is to watch video over the WiFi LAN - and it's completely useless for that as it functions today.

I have as of yet seen nobody with a 1GB report anything decent out of the wifi - just the 512mb devices.
Knowing the have a different wifi module, I assume that's at the root of the problem:
Ok drivers for the 512 - completely crap drivers for the 1gb.

On a side note - does anyone know how to get a hold of whatever company made the tablet?
Maybe I can good translate myself into some decent drivers.

Anyone have any ideas here?
I have personally run this now on 5 different routers - same exact experience - works, connects, but only at 1Mbps.
From everything I've read it wouldn't be a hardware problem - I'd see at least some drops, errors, something if the hardware was going - it works fine just at a snails pace.

So very odd to me - I have NEVER had a WiFi issue like this before - it's so weird, it's gotta be drivers no?

Try change channel number... it can be better. For me, best channel is 5, download average 300 kb/s, sure is no enought for lan video streaming.
But i agree with you, vimicro needs to be resolved all problems for 1 gb tablet.

Hi, to share my experience :
I have a 1 GB Haipad
The maximum data rate for a big file is around 750 kB/s using Filezilla and PC connected by ethernet on my box (neufbox NB4)
If I use speednet, I have various results, from 100 kB/s to 400 kB/s
The maximum download rate from internet is 300 kB/s (most of the time around 150 k/s)
If I check the settings, I get a 54 Mbps/s result.
I notice that if I have another device next to the haipad, the wifi drops to 1 Mbps :o . I don't know if there are incompatibilities between b/g devices and b/g/n ones connected on the same router.

If a compare with another tablet (Archos 70 IT), with Filezilla I get 1.5 MB/s, and to download from internet, around 600 kB/s, which is not far from my bandwidth.

If I stream a video using SMB, I get a data rate of about 400 kB/s to load the cache, but once the video plays, I can have a drop to 100 kB/s. It may be due not to the wifi, but to the capability of the tablet to handle both tasks. It is true especially during actions, with a camera move.

EDIT : I opened the device case and added an aluminium foil on the wifi antenna (a cylinder followed by a wire of app. 1 mm diameter). I connected the foil to the wire.
Well, the speed test is somewhat better with results of 550 kB/s and the internet download seems more regular (average of 400 kB/s on regular Megaupload for a 700 MB file) . I did not perform that many tests. May be the current location and shape of the antenna are not the best and a comprehensive study could enhance the wifi performance.

sorry I can't get pictures.

I sit literally 2 feet from a cisco wifi router that has amazing range, and everything in my home gets 1200 down and 1200 up this device gets 300 (or less) down, and 400 up. Its not the antennae shape... when you first turn the device on...for about 4 to 5 minutes from boot it usually will operate at just what you said 550~ but then it drops to 300 (or less) again suddenly. Being this close to the router the antennae shape shouldn't have any effect. It's a software problem. The wifi has good range, from my experience...just problems with throughput speed.

<conjecture>
I think it's pretty clear that both the nanoradio drivers and hardware are a total pile. As I mentioned in a different post, if I use the KeepWifi service, or set wifi to "never disable" in the advanced settings, my tablet locks hard and am forced to reset the whole thing. During this time the nanoradio chip is also very hot. I think that a (poorly working) governor was put into place to make the chip as stable as it can possibly be, which doesn't seem to be all that great in the first place.
</conjecture>

Hello
I have the 1GB Haipad ,I use a TP-link mini portable router "tl-wr702n-150m" on the end of a lan
cable connexted to my wired router/modem my house broadband speed is 14.5MBs
On the Haipad speed test I get 5.5MBs I can watch HiDef video streamed from YouTube .
AS my Haipad is the only thing useing the WiFi this mite be the reason I can get such high seed.
One thing I have noticed is, if I switch on the Haipad with the WiFi allready on then the WiFi can get very slow and chopy and even freeze up,I hope this information can help.

My WIFI fluctuates. When connecting it's at 54Mbps. After a while (3 or 4 minutes) it drops to around 1Mbps. If I watch a YouTube video it actually goes back up to around 24Mbps. While doing nothing it fluctuates between 1Mbps and 18Mbps. My router is a Netgear N Dual band with wifi boost. It's located in my basement which is 2 floors below me and approximately 7 feet (2.1 meters) behind me. I am using version 0906 firmware on my pad. I'm on channel 11.

Edit: I just checked my connection again after leaving the pad idol for about 30 minutes now, I was at 48Mbps.

Edit Again: Waited another 15 minutes, checked connection, 54Mbps. Not sure why it fluctuates so much.

Another Edit: First post was on January 7th 2012 - This edit is on February 3rd 2012 -- My wireless connection has been quite steady for the last few days, running at 38Mbps. I haven't done anything to change it and I'm still running 0906 firmware. I can't explain why my wifi is quite stable now. It doesn't even drop to 1Mbps anymore..woohoo. I'll keep an eye on it though and update post as necessary.
