 Other VC882's
There are other VC882's in the market, in fact someone over at the Wopad forums lists out some other tablets with links off to firmwares. I wonder if a better drivers (ahem nanoradio?) or other goodies for hacking purposes lie hidden inside of those .PAK files. Note that the install instructions look pretty much the same for all vc882's: http://www.wopadusa.com/support/our-and ... hread36.0/from: http://www.wopadusa.com/support/our-and ... -thread35/

Also, it looks like Zixoon is working on an ICS firmware: https://twitter.com/#!/zixoon/status/140951836885655553

 Re: Other VC882's
What does this mean though? Can ICS be somehow ported using parts of the firmware released by Zixoon? I thought that the Haipad has some closed source drivers.

 Re: Other VC882's
The difference between once VC882 and another is minimal, and we might be able to reuse some of the drivers on the existing M8 firmwares.

 Re: Other VC882's
It looks like the Viewsonic 10e is a VC882. Viewsonic is also very good about posting source code.

 Re: Other VC882's
hmm, are you sure that this is a vc882-Device? From the specs it could be nearly every modern Cortex-A8 based processor ... Well, but if it is a vmicro design from Viewsonic, there are much higher chances to get the source code In hope we wait ...

 Re: Other VC882's
Yeah, I've looked around like crazy for the source code for this thing. I've even called Vimicro and Skype'd with Haipad. Effectively, they both slammed the door in my face. Haipad said flatly that they would not release the source code and Vimicro just never got back to me. The rumor mill indicates that Vimicro is working on a version of ICS for the VC882, which would be really nice, but it sure would be better (i.e. raising the bar from theft to legal) if they would release source code (esp. the Linux modifications). At his point I guess that I'll probably end up filing a report with gpl-violations.org, but I would rather not, Vimicro is a publicly traded company and hasn't had a good time of it thus far. At either rate it really is annoying when someone indignantly declines to abide by the terms of a contract like the license in open source software.
I'll stop complaining now -b
