hey guys i just bought the ainol novo8 for 200$ canadian
amazing price

i have a few questions though, i am on my third day using it, and some things are kind of sluggish
this is my first android device and everywhere i read to make your android device faster, it says to ''root'' it
or use ''custom firmware'' and i just dont understand how to do so.

This is such a noob and dumb question i understand, but any help will help me right now
how can i root and put the fastest firmware on my ainol novo 8

Hi there, I'm from canada also.

Here are some things that I did to my device.

1. Updated to the 0719 official ROM from the ainol website. It is in chinese, so you will have to use google translate to be able to navigate around. Just a caution, that some people had experienced a semi brick when updating to this firmware. I did experience it myself, but there is a solution on this website that will fix it. Here are some things that I found that works better in this firmware.
a. Wifi seems to get a better reception, on 0627 firmware I frequently get disconnects but after updating to 0719 it occurs occasionally.

b. They have some options under the “Display Settings” so that you can change the LCD density. By choosing a higher density, the icons and text appear bigger. This helps if you have bigger finger since it reduces the problem of poorly registering the touch on something else.

c. Android market is built into this firmware so you can install apps directly from the website.

2. Replaced the default launcher with "LauncerPro", it is free on Android Market. I found this works better than the default launcher. On the default launcher, it would frequently register a swipe on the homescreen as a click instead which is annoying. After installing LauncherPro, it works much much better.

3. Install z4root, this is the app that roots the device. It's required if you want use apps that require root privileges. Here are some apps
a. Root Explorer (Allows you to perform functions on all the files on your device include system files.)

b. Chainfire3D (improves performance of some HD games or makes some Tegra games run on this device. It installs alternative OpenGL drivers, it also has plugins that emulate nvidia, powervr etc)

c. ES Task Manager (This app allows you to kill other apps running in the background. In android devices, when you exit a program sometimes they don’t really exit. They run in the background and eat up memory so if you had started a lot of apps previous, eventually you’ll find that the device starts to slow). So occasionally you will have to run the task manager and kill unwanted apps that are running in the background. I have the ES Task Manager widget added to my home screen which shows you the amount of memory available which is a nice feature. Also one click on it will kill all the background apps.

d. System App Remover ( I used this to remove unwanted apps that came in the 0719 ROM eg Advanced Task Manager which was the chinese version).

wonder when we can get Bluetooth activated since its suppose to be combi module with Wifi ? anyone can help dig info from Ainol ? really need to to run as can't use USD Bluetooth also !
