Bit of an android newbie, but familiar with JTAG etc.. on other hardware devices. Would it be possible with the renesas to install alternative firmware other than the official ones supplied? Like cyanogenmod (obviously this wont as isn't listed as compatible) but what about other firmware?

Yes, I just installed a hybrid firmware just few hours ago and all went ok.
